Suki's Daring Dookie cover
Suki hanging upside down
High up in the trees
where the warm breezes blow,
lived a sloth named Suki β€”
the queen of sloooow.
  She munched on her leaves
and she slept the day through.
(Sixteen hours of napping!
Imagine that's YOU!)
Suki's eyes go wide
One day after lunch,
Suki felt something BREWING β€”
a RUMBLE, a grumble,
a stink-storm accruing.
  Her eyes opened wide.
It had been a whole WEEK.
And when a sloth tummy talks…
it's about to get REEK.
The canopy buzzes with the news
Rodrigo said, "UH-OH.
She's got to go DOWN."
Elvira screamed, "POOP TRIP!"
to everyone 'round!
  Poor sloths can't just poop
way up high in a tree β€”
they have to climb down,
once a week guaranteed!
Suki begins her descent
Now up in the trees,
Suki's fur looks all green β€”
it helps her blend in
so she can't be seen.
  But down on the ground
she's easy to spot.
She has to climb down,
ready or not.
Jaguar below, eagle above
A jaguar was lurking
and licking her lips.
An eagle was circling
with shallow low dips.
  Its shadow swept over
the bark like a sheet β€”
Suki FROZE on the trunk.
(Not a sound. Not a beat.)
Snake face to face with Suki
A snake slithered close
and hissed in her ear.
"Calm down," said Suki β€”
and showed zero fear.
  Her belly went GRRRRUMBLE,
a funny old sound.
She kept her eyes focused
on reaching the ground.
Suki's toes touch dirt
And FINALLY β€” FINALLY! β€”
her toes touched the DIRT!
She looked left then right,
she was safe and unhurt!
  Then Suki did something
that might make you GIGGLE β€”
science has a name for it
(get ready to WIGGLE) β€”
The Sloth Poop Dance
She began the SLOTH POOP DANCE
with a jig and a jiggle β€”
and dug a small hole
with her tail and a wriggle.
  She squatted down low β€”
and right there and then,
she pooped like she'd NEVER
be pooping again!
Moths leaving Suki's fur
But wait β€” there are MOTHS
crawling out of her fur!
They've been riding along
for a week in a blur!
  They hopped to the ground
and they laid tiny eggs
right INTO the poop!
(I'm not pulling your leg.)
Moths carrying algae upward
The moths bring her algae
that turns her fur GREEN β€”
the perfect disguise
for staying unseen!
  The poop feeds the moths
and the moths keep her hidden.
The coolest poop story
that's EVER been written!
Suki climbing up triumphantly
She stretched up her arms
and started to climb β€”
back up to the top,
to safety, sublime!
  Rodrigo went wild:
"SHE MADE IT!" he cried.
Elvira swooped in
for a victory glide!
Suki safe at home, sunset
She reached her home branch
and wrapped herself tight,
hung upside down
in a world that felt right.
  Rodrigo dozed off.
Elvira did, too.
The forest grew golden,
then pink and then blue.
  As tiny moths nestled
right in her fur β€”
Safe, green, and hidden
and bonded with her,
  "No… need… to… rush,"
Suki whispered with care.
The bravest, happiest
sloth anywhere.

The End!

Thanks for reading!

Suki's Sloth Facts

Sloths only poop once a week β€” and they ALWAYS climb down to the ground to do it. Scientists think it's to help the moths and algae that live in their fur.
A sloth can lose up to one-third of its body weight in a single poop. That's like pooping out your entire backpack β€” books, lunchbox, water bottle, and all!
The "poop dance" is real! Sloths wiggle and use their stubby tails to dig a little hole. Nobody knows exactly why they do it that way.
Sloths are terrible at walking, but they're actually really good swimmers. They can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes!
A sloth's fur grows in the opposite direction from most animals β€” from belly to back β€” so rain rolls right off when they hang upside down!
